Detroit, Michigan — A battery exploded at the GM Tech Center battery research lab injuring six people Wednesday morning.  Firefighters responded to a call around 9 a.m. that there was an explosion at the lab. Fumes from hydrogen sulfide caused the explosion which blew out a thick door.  At least 80 people were evacuated from the building.  One man suffered a concussion and chemical damage to his skin and was taken to St. John Hospital.  GM conducts tests on batteries for current and future use at the tech center. GM said the explosion was due to tests on a prototype battery. Earlier this year the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigated the risk of battery fires in the Volt.  They found no safety issues.  In March, GM replaced the charging cords in the Volts that were sold since 2010.  The Volt plant in Detroit-Hamtramck planned to temporarily shut down for five weeks starting March 19.  But due to strong sales in March the plant will reopen sooner than expected.  If you have been injured while on the job, consult with an experienced Detroit personal injury lawyer right away.  You need someone by your side helping you get the compensation you deserve.
